Chivas Regal 12 years old – whisky review

Chivas Regal 12

This is one of the Whiskies which don’t need an introduction. In addition to the Johnnie Walker Black Label, Chivas Regal 12 is probably the best-known twelve-year old Blended Whisky. It’s made of about 40 ingredients.

The name derives from the founders of the distillery: James and John Chivas. Until today, this Whisky is produced by Chivas Brothers, a corporation belonging to Pernod Ricard (France)

Chivas Regal 12

12 years old

40% ABV

Not smoky

Chill filtered

Color: very nice and quite natural: light amber – 1 with a small addition of caramel

Tasting notes

Nose: surprisingly alcoholic for as much as 12 years and for only 40%. You have to give it a rest, breathe … after a few minutes he gets milder. Bourbon, white, dry wine, toffee, grape juice, cherries in liqueur, hay, peaches. 18.5 / 25

Palate: vanilla, fudge, almonds, dried fruit, cocoa, milk chocolate, blueberry. It tastes very pleasantly. 22.5 / 25

Finish: caramel, Amarena cherries, ginger, lime peel, walnuts, Werther’s Original candies. 21/25

Balance: definitely not the level that the 18 years old represents, but still, this Whisky is really good. The first impression is quite unpleasant due to the alcoholic intensity at the nose, but after a while it passes. Taste and the finish is much better. The color also deserves a plus. If the manufacturer has added the tar of e-150 … it’s definitely not the whole bucket ;-D 20/25

Overall: 83/100

Other reviews:

Ralfy (2017): 85/100

Murray (2017): 83.5 / 100

Serge (2014): 75/100

Price: usually, around 22-25 €.

I recommend it.

In time I will compare this Whiskey with Johnnie Walker 12 Black Label and Ballantine’s 12
