Aberlour A’Bunadh Batch 57
Today, there’s Aberlour A’Bunadh Batch 57 on my table and I’m going to take it to my „workshop”. I always enjoyed the various batches of A’Bunadhs. Let’s see what it brings this time.
Aberlour A’Bunadh Batch 57
Aberlour means „the mouth of the Lour River”
A’Bunadh means “the Origins”
Scotch Single Malt
Region: Speyside
NAS
CS, 60.7% ABV
Not smoky
Matured in ex-Sherry casks
Non chill filtered
Don’t not we love these wonderful bubbles that appear on the walls of our glass just after pouring Cask Strength Whisky? I’m crazy about them 😍
Color: Amber +2,5 😉
Tasting notes
Nose: Chocolate, prunes, Sherry Cream (very sweet), tonka beans, raisins, ginger, honey. I don’t recommend putting the nose into the glass immediately after pouring, because we may be a bit surprised … it would be better to wait at least a few minutes before sniffing. 22/25
Palate: Cocoa, maple syrup, espresso, ginger, plum jam, peaches in syrup, ripe pears, old wood, avocado. You can feel a strong amount of alcohol, but it’s because of the power of the Whisky rather than its immaturity. Let’s give it some time – at least a dozen or so minutes – let it rest, then it will be even more pleasant for us to enjoy it. Adding a few drops of water would be a very good idea. It enriches its taste and slightly changes it. If we won’t overdo it (by reducing it below 50% ABV), we will definitely be satisfied 😉 22 / 25
Finish: Very pleasant, extremely long, slightly dry, with a typical A’Bunadh power. Cinnamon, maple syrup, sorrel. 21/25
Balance: Great „Sherry Monster”. Great quality. It could be a bit less alcoholic in taste … but it’s still great. Of course, it is quite different from other batches (I compared it with # 47 and # 61), but this is the charm of Whiskies bottled in small parts. 22/25
Overall: 87 / 100
Other reviews:
Serge (2016): 88/100
Price: I bought this Whisky for 60 €. Great ratio of quality to price, however, if it would cost over 75 €, I would seriously think twice before I’d buy it.
