Cragganmore 12 years old
I’d like to introduce a representative of the Speyside region from the Diageo portfolio. Let me introduce the Cragganmore 12 years old.
Cragganmore 12 years old
Cragganmore means „Big Rock”
Scotch Single Malt
Region: Speyside
12 years old
40% ABV
Unpeated
Matured in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks
Chill-filtered
Color: amber with the addition of the artificial caramel
Tasting notes
Nose: charcoal, caramel, alcohol, red wine, cloves, cardamom, prunes and figs, cappuccino, cherries in liqueur. After several minutes, the bouquet opens, the alcohol softens and the smell becomes more noble. I like it very much. 22/25
Palate: dark chocolate, prunes, ripe bananas, peaches, molasses. A little diluted and slightly peaty – you can feel maybe 2 PPM or even less. 19.5 / 25
Finish: dates, apple seeds, honey melon, cocoa, ripe plums, walnuts. Pleasant but short. 19.5 / 25
Balance: to discover the fullness of sensations, you definitely have to give it a rest. Generally, tasty, pleasantly fragrant Whisky. The minimal, barely perceptible amount of smoke nicely blends into the whole and beautifully harmonizes with the distinct notes of Sherry. All, however, too diluted for this basic twelve-year-old Whiskey to be the representative of the region. Oh, but that’s just my personal opinion. 20/25
Overall: 81/100
other reviews:
Ralfy (2017): 85/100
Serge (2015): 80/100
whisky.com – Master Taster Horst Luening described this Whisky as an example of a perfect balance and one of his favorite whiskies from the Speyside region. This is a huge authority in the world of Whisky, which has been a professional taster for over thirty years … that’s why I had a slight resistance writing this review, especially regarding the balance … However, since I started writing notes, I have never suggested someone else’s opinions (I like reading, or watching them, but NEVER COPYING). I only describe my own sensations and impressions. This time they did not match the impressions of one of my favorite Whisky reviewers ☺️
