Hendrick’s Gin
Today, awarded with many medals (2 double gold and 3 silver at the International Spirit Competition in San Francisco) and hailed in 2003 as the best gin in the world. I introduce Hendrick’s, bottled at 44% ABV.
Its composition includes, among other ingredients: juniper, coriander and citrus peel, however, it contains less obvious botanicals, such as cucumber and rose petals.
color: transparent
The bottle looks interesting… like very old pharmacy bottles.
Tasting notes
Nose: intensely citric (though not as much as Tanquery no. Ten). Ginger, rosemary, lime, ripe watermelon, sage, juniper, cloves. Alcohol isn’t perfectly hidden, but, still … the world’s masterclass. 22/25
Palate: simply a BOMB! 120% Gin in the Gin. So intense and so amazing … slightly sweet, but at the same time, fantastically bitter. Apricot kernels, prunes, juniper, lychee, rosemary, fresh cucumber, nutmeg, coriander, cardamom, anise … after a while there is a bitter chocolate. Fantastic! 23.5 / 25
Finish: peach, cocoa, rosemary, lime peel, watermelon, orange, ginger, mint, cloves. Long, dry, very pleasant. 23/25
Balance: close to perfection. Minus 1 point for the alcoholic intensity in the scent. The rest – perfection. 24/25
Overall: 92.5 / 100
Other reviews:
Ralfy (2013): 91/100
Price: EUR 30, in Edeka store, Germany. In Poland, I saw Hendrick’s Gin in Kaufland for about PLN 110, but it contained only 41.4% ABV
I would highly recommend!
