Auchentoshan 12 years old – whisky review

Auchentoshan 12

Auchentoshan 12 is quite a popular whisky. It’s also an interesting example. Triple distilled SCOTCH Whisky. Aged in two types of casks (finished in ex-sherry). 12 years old. It sounds good and promises to be interesting …

Let’s see what it tells us today.

Auchentoshan 12

Auchentoshan means „Corner of the Field”

12 years

40% ABV

Matured in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks

Unpeated

Tasting notes

Nose: marzipan, green pepper, star anise, vanilla, black tea, cereals. Alcohol is not badly hidden. 19/25

Palate: ripe bananas, caramel, salt, apples, ginger, citrus. 20/25

Finish: medium long, quite sweet, bananas, anise, nuts. 18/25

Balance: I thought it’d be good… and it’s not BAD. Doesn’t make you feel sick 😉 alcohol does not disturb at the nose nor the palate. It’s rather tasty and pleasant … and very gentle. 21/25

Overall: 78/100

Lowlands is not my favorite region of Scotland when it comes to Whisky, but it’s worth a try something from that part of this beautiful country.

I bought a miniature for about 5€. I enjoyed it, although I am not sure if I will buy a „large-size Auchentoshan 12” 🙂

Price: good online stores offer from 30 €.

If you’re a fan of very delicate spirits, I recommend it.
